Nove: background and attribution

Fabrizio Schiavi developed Nove as a custom typeface for Nike’s Milano Kalibro Kobe campaign in 2011. The designer’s product page connects the project with geometric lettering and typography from B movies. That specific commission gives the family a concrete origin rather than a general futuristic backstory. Nove is now presented in the Fabrizio Schiavi Design catalog as a display sans serif with an intentionally constructed visual character.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The designer describes Nove as geometric, with a construction that looks straightforward at first but becomes more complex on closer inspection. Its catalog places the family in the display and sans serif categories, and identifies the supplied design as TrueType hand hinted and optimized for web use. Those production details belong to the actual font files; they should not be confused with a Unicode text conversion or a promise that every device already includes the face.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try Nove on a campaign headline of two to five words, giving it enough space for its construction to remain visible. Place dates, venue information and long descriptions in a calmer companion font. Compare the headline in a wide banner and a square social card before committing to a line break. Build contrast through scale and spacing first, then add color sparingly so the lettering remains the principal visual element.

For independent comparisons, try Michroma and Orbitron. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
