Norwester: background and attribution
Jamie Wilson presents Norwester as a condensed geometric sans serif. The original project includes uppercase letters, small capitals, numbers and symbols, and links its download to the SIL Open Font License. The original project page is the source for this account; its version number should not be mistaken for a design date.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Condensed proportions can fit a short title into a narrow space. Compare the height and rhythm of uppercase and small-cap letters in the original specimen. A capital-only repertoire needs a different plan from an ordinary mixed-case paragraph.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a poster headline containing both letters and a date. Compare Anton for a narrow title and Oswald for a separate condensed sans approach. Neither comparison reproduces Norwester; adjust line breaks and spacing independently.
For independent comparisons, try Anton and Oswald. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
