New Spirit: background and attribution
Newlyn’s New Spirit is a contemporary revival of Windsor, first released by Stephenson Blake in 1905. The foundry frames the design as an expanded, usable reinterpretation rather than an unchanged historical resource. The Windsor date refers to that earlier design.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The current family includes roman and italic directions alongside condensed and compressed resources. Compare the selected branch rather than squeezing a standard-width sample in software and calling it equivalent to a designed narrow style.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a warm editorial heading and a packaging title with a long product name. Lora and Alice offer independent serif comparisons. Judge a complete word and its surrounding copy before choosing a strongly expressive heading.
For independent comparisons, try Lora and Alice. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
