Neue Plak: background and attribution
Neue Plak reinterprets Paul Renner’s Plak design of 1928. Monotype designers Linda Hintz and Toshi Omagari researched its wood-type sources and expanded the original small set into a larger contemporary system.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The source highlights a mixture of firm structure and playful details, including the lowercase r and prominent dots. Display and text choices serve different roles. Inspect the intended branch rather than assuming the most expressive cut should be used throughout a page.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a package name, a short promotional phrase and a paragraph. Keep unusual details in a role where they remain visible. Bricolage Grotesque and Archivo provide independent sans comparisons with different personalities and metrics.
For independent comparisons, try Bricolage Grotesque and Archivo. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
