Mikado: background and attribution
Hannes von Döhren designed Mikado in 2013 with support credited to Christoph Koeberlin and Bernd Volmer. The creator describes a balance between an easygoing personality and practical typographic work. The related Mikado Condensed is identified separately within the project.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Six weights have italic companions, with variable resources also shown on the current page. The lighter weights are positioned for text, while the heavier ones become more animated for headings. Script coverage and special characters should be checked in the selected original resource.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a playful product heading and a short instruction paragraph. Inspect the lighter weights at the real reading size rather than judging them only from enlarged samples. Keep the bolder treatment for words that need emphasis, with clear separation from supporting copy.
For independent comparisons, try Fredoka and Nunito Sans. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.

Use HvD Fonts to try the original and investigate the files, styles and terms for your intended workflow. This site does not distribute or serve Mikado font software.
The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
