Metal Lord: background and attribution
Raymond Larabie released Metal Lord in 1996, drawing directly on Iron Maiden’s angular logo lettering. His account distinguishes that reconstruction from the earlier unidentified source lettering. The font’s history should not turn an uncertain source attribution into a confirmed designer credit for the original logo.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The author listing identifies the supplied archive as CC0 and describes ligature behavior that changes some letter combinations. Inspect the actual shaped word in an application with those features. The archive’s terms concern its font software; they do not establish ownership of an existing band name or logo.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a short fictional event title with ligatures enabled and disabled where supported. Judge how adjacent letters fit together at thumbnail size. Use separately named alternatives to explore a broad heavy-display role without presenting them as the original Metal Lord font.
For independent comparisons, try Pirata One and UnifrakturCook. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
