McDonald’s Font: Custom Lettering and Brand Design Context

Explore the sources, compare the examples and choose the right approach.

McDonald’s typography belongs to a broader identity system. The Golden Arches, written name and text on a menu are different references when identifying a font.

01

Begin with the actual brand application

Save the exact menu, package or advertisement that prompted the question. A familiar color palette can make unrelated typography feel like the same brand, while a campaign may introduce a different display treatment. Compare the complete words, date and format before naming a family. The Golden Arches are a symbol; a font selected for a menu does not automatically explain that mark.

02

What the identity designer documents

Turner Duckworth dates the start of its creative and strategic McDonald’s partnership to 2017. Its project account says the Golden Arches informed the engineered curves of a custom font and describes a system extending across retail, sub-brands and other touchpoints. The agency records new identity assets debuting at the worldwide convention in 2018. This establishes a designed system rather than one stock font inferred from a screenshot.

03

Understand a custom font within a system

A custom alphabet can carry a repeated curve through headings and supporting information, while the wordmark remains a separately controlled asset. The designer’s account is the basis for that relationship here; it does not establish a public download for every brand resource. When studying a menu, compare its heading and price text separately instead of treating the largest logo as a specimen of all typography on the page.

04

Create an independent café menu

Compare Fredoka for a rounded heading with Manrope or Inter for item descriptions and prices. Use your own restaurant name and a realistic long item in every sample. Align the prices consistently and leave room for additions without shrinking the text. These are independent font options, not McDonald’s fonts. Build a distinctive layout around your own menu structure rather than a familiar brand’s mark.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Are the Golden Arches made by typing a letter M?

They are a specific graphic mark. A generic M glyph does not establish the original artwork or its construction.

Does the identity project provide a universal McDonald’s font download?

The cited project documents custom typography and its context. It does not establish a public font resource for unrestricted use.
