Mānuka: background and attribution
Mānuka is Kris Sowersby’s display collection for Klim, released in 2021. The publisher connects its compressed forms with nineteenth-century German wood type, interpreted through a contemporary New Zealand design approach.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Tight spacing, restricted openings and sharp joins produce a dense display texture. The main branch is intended for large settings. The appearance should be judged at headline scale rather than assuming that an exceptionally compressed style can also handle long passages at small size.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try an exhibition title as one tall line and as a stacked block. Keep the smaller venue details clear and separate. Big Shoulders and Six Caps provide independent narrow display comparisons; their shapes and width ranges do not reproduce Mānuka.
For independent comparisons, try Big Shoulders and Six Caps. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
Official preview and font resources
Use Klim Type Foundry to try the original and investigate the files, styles and terms for your intended workflow. This site does not distribute or serve Mānuka font software.
The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
