A physical board uses a matched set of separate characters
Ghent describes its flannel letterboards as grooved felt surfaces that secure removable characters. Its separate character set is described as white plastic Gothic-style letters, numbers and symbols designed for its enclosed boards. Here Gothic is the manufacturer’s description of that product lettering, not proof of a medieval blackletter design or a named font download. The actual physical board, letter dimensions and attachment system determine what can be installed.
Count the message before laying out the first row
Write the complete announcement, date, time and location, then count repeated characters as well as the total length. Check the available set for punctuation, numerals and any required accented letters. Leave enough stock for another announcement if the board carries several messages. A digital font can repeat a letter without limit; a physical kit may run out of a frequently used character. Revise wording deliberately rather than replacing a missing character with a misleading substitute.
Plan rows using the actual board and letter size
Measure the usable area inside the frame and reserve margins around the message. Start with the longest line and keep a logical phrase together where possible. Compare a centered short announcement with an aligned schedule before choosing the arrangement. Use a paper plan or a small temporary arrangement of the real characters to estimate spacing. Do not assume that a monospaced digital specimen reproduces the width or fitting of the manufacturer’s plastic pieces.
Keep a digital mockup distinct from the physical specification
Bebas Neue, Roboto Mono and Montserrat below are independent choices for an original letterboard-inspired graphic or a rough composition study. They are not replacements guaranteed to fit Ghent boards. For physical production, inspect the assembled wording at its intended viewing distance and review any glare from a protective cover. Keep the final text and row breaks in an editable record so the next person can update a date without rebuilding the announcement from memory.
Your questions, answered.
Can I download a font and use it as physical letterboard letters?
A font file does not supply compatible physical pieces. Match the board’s character size, grooves and attachment requirements with the manufacturer’s resource.
Are all letterboard fonts monospaced?
No universal rule follows from the board concept. Check the actual character kit or digital family instead of assuming its widths from the visual style.
