01

Identify which LEGO lettering you mean

A boxed logo contains a fixed wordmark. Brick-built text is a construction using pieces, and text on packaging or instructions can belong to a separate typography system. Those references do not establish one shared downloadable LEGO font. Save the exact image or product reference before comparing a lettering style, and keep the original logo distinct from an independently chosen typeface.

02

The company documents the 1973 logo change

LEGO’s historical account describes retaining the square format from the 1964 logo while removing the word system and five colored stripes in 1973. It also records tightened, softly rounded lettering with a black-and-yellow double contour around white letters. Those are specific changes to a wordmark, not a specification for every character in a general-purpose font family.

03

Compare rounded fonts for an original heading

Try Fredoka, Baloo 2 and Bowlby One for an independent playroom label or building-club poster. They offer different proportions and weight, so compare a whole name rather than one letter. These specimens are not official LEGO lettering. Keep the outline treatment simple enough that enclosed spaces remain open at the final size.

04

Plan brick-built words as a separate exercise

When the lettering will be built from bricks, sketch a grid for the full word and choose a consistent height before deciding the width of each character. Compare similar forms such as O and Q or I and L. Use color or spacing to separate words. A rounded digital font can provide a starting comparison, but it does not automatically specify a buildable pattern of parts.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Is the LEGO logo just a rounded font with an outline?

Its rounded letters and contours are parts of a specific brand wordmark. A rounded font can suggest a different playful direction without being the same design.

Are brick letters the same as the logo alphabet?

No. Brick-built lettering is a construction problem with its own grid and part choices; it should be distinguished from the fixed logo.
