Start with the creator, not only the name
A search for Kindred can return unrelated lettering resources. Record the designer or foundry alongside the family name. A font menu entry alone is not enough to establish which resource a screenshot uses or which file a teammate should obtain. The distinctions below help narrow the research before a visual comparison.
Rachel Kick’s hand-lettered sans family
Rachel Kick’s Kindred catalog describes a hand-lettered sans with slightly rounded corners, alternate letters and ligatures. The listed styles include Light, Regular and Bold with corresponding Rounded versions. The publisher documents standard ligatures and more than ninety alternatives for customizing word shapes. Use the family’s own listing when investigating this design.
Tom Chalky and Andi Moz identify different resources
Tom Chalky’s Kindred TC listing describes a handcrafted family inspired by showcards in older black-and-white films and supplies stylistic alternatives. Andi Moz’s separate Kindred author page describes a friendly handwritten display design and identifies its personal-use distribution. These descriptions concern different products; the name does not make their creators, character sets or terms interchangeable.
Compare a candidate against the actual sample
Use a word containing several distinctive letters, then compare repeated characters and any alternates. Note whether the candidate is a particular Rounded cut or a different designer’s family altogether. Preserve those details in the handoff. Independently named Patrick Hand and Handlee can help explore a handwritten direction, but neither is a Kindred reproduction. See the font-identification guide for the research process.
Your questions, answered.
Who designed Kindred font?
Several designers use that name. The linked resources include separate designs by Rachel Kick, Tom Chalky and Andi Moz.
Are Kindred and Kindred TC interchangeable?
Do not assume so. Check the designer, exact family, selected style and character repertoire.
Why does my Kindred file look different from a screenshot?
It may be a different designer’s font, a different style or an alternate character. Compare the exact resource and visible letters.
