Kenyan Coffee: background and attribution
Raymond Larabie released Kenyan Coffee in October 1999, inspired by his admiration for Fred Lambert’s Compacta. He describes adapting the balance of square and round forms while introducing different waistline positions. Regular and italic resources followed the initial Bold release in February 2000.

Forms, styles and what to inspect
The November 2024 version reorganized weight names across a seven-weight family with italics. Older Book became Light, and other lighter labels shifted as well. The original free styles and later paid additions are different subsets; Kenyan Coffee Stencil also has its own history.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a narrow title and a short caption with repeated rounded letters. Inspect the selected weight at output size. When reproducing an old layout, consult the creator’s renaming account rather than assuming the same menu label always identifies the same resource.
For independent comparisons, try Bebas Neue and Antonio. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
