Juana: background and attribution

Eli Hernández designed Juana for Latinotype as a further exploration of ideas in Jazmín. The publisher describes the newer family as maintaining that earlier design’s essence while developing its forms. Related origins do not make Juana and Jazmín interchangeable resources.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Strong contrast between heavy and fine strokes is central to the family. Its resources include weights, italics and an Alt branch. Inspect the exact branch and character forms before selecting a file, and keep its Latin-based language coverage distinct from a claim of universal script support.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a magazine cover heading and a product-name lockup. Compare an upright and italic setting at the intended output size, especially the thin strokes. Evaluate the Alt branch using the same word so individual letter changes are easy to see.

For independent comparisons, try Playfair Display and DM Serif Display. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
