01

Get a font-containing app

Apple’s iPad guide says to open the App Store, obtain an app containing fonts and open the app to install them. Follow the chosen app’s resource information so you know which family and styles it supplies.

02

Manage installed resources

Apple documents Settings > General > Fonts for managing fonts on iPad. Keep the exact family name with your document notes. A font’s presence in the settings list and its appearance in a particular authoring app are related but separate parts of the editing workflow.

03

Choose within the document workflow

Use the authoring app’s supported font controls when preparing text. Start with a heading and a paragraph containing the characters your document needs. Avoid assuming that adding a decorative Latin family will also supply every language or symbol used elsewhere in the file.

04

Prepare documents for another editor

Record the selected family, styles and official source with the project. If the document must travel to a different device, make its typography requirements explicit instead of sending only an image of a font menu. Read font file types and typeface versus font for the underlying resource distinctions.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Where can I manage installed fonts?

Apple documents Settings > General > Fonts on iPad.

Does installing a document font choose a new system interface font?

Apple describes this installation workflow for fonts used in documents. It does not document it as an arbitrary system-interface font replacement.
