Use the dated identity source
Meta’s August 13, 2026 account describes a refreshed script wordmark and a wider typography system. It names updated Instagram Sans, a handwriting family called Instagram Pen, and Instagram Mono.
This matters when identifying a screenshot: a description of an older Instagram identity does not automatically describe the latest announced design.
Distinguish the wordmark from a font menu
The announcement treats the crafted script wordmark separately from the additional named families. It does not say that selecting Instagram Sans recreates the official Instagram logo.
Record whether your sample is the app interface, an identity graphic, a story overlay or text embedded in someone’s image.
Compare separate typographic roles
Inter offers an independent sans-serif comparison, Patrick Hand an informal handwriting direction and Roboto Mono a fixed-width alternative. They illustrate different roles without reproducing Meta’s custom resources.
Compare the same words and approximate output size before selecting a direction for your own layout.
Keep copy-and-paste tools separate
Our Instagram text-style tool substitutes Unicode characters. It does not install Instagram Sans, Pen or Mono and cannot force another app to use a particular typeface.
For an existing graphic, use the image font-identification guide to compare the actual shapes and source context.
A Story text style includes more than a typeface
Meta’s engineering account published in July 2022 describes the Stories text-style project launched in 2020. It separates the text-style picker, decorated versions and reveal animations. Its examples explain why identifying the underlying font alone cannot reconstruct every visible part of a Story heading. This is a dated production account, not a complete list of styles currently offered in the app.
For a specific sample, note whether the distinctive feature is a letter shape, a filled background or moving text. Compare a still frame with the full motion before deciding what must be recreated. The account explains that word and character reveal animations had to handle ligatures, right-to-left text and emojis; treating each visible letter as an isolated drawing could break the result.
When creating an original overlay, keep its spelling readable in both a static view and the intended motion. A family attribution, a decoration and an animation choice should be recorded separately. Use the image-identification guide for a concrete sample, and the separate Instagram Unicode tool only for its supported character-substitution task.
Your questions, answered.
Is Instagram’s logo just ordinary text in Instagram Sans?
Meta’s current account discusses the crafted script wordmark and its named typeface families separately.
Will copying text from this page change Instagram’s interface font?
No. The specimens use fonts loaded on this page. Ordinary copied text does not carry those font resources into the app.
