Identify the Aboutype edition and its changes
Joffre LeFevre’s Aboutype Hunter account describes a redraw of Beton associated with Bauer and Intertype, with additional weights, a shorter x-height and new italics. It states that roman and italic share roman capitals. This guide identifies Aboutype’s family; it does not establish equivalence with other products named Hunter.
Compare the italic through mixed-case words
Set A closer look upright and in the corresponding supplied italic. Compare its capital A with the changing lowercase, then make a short all-capital title to inspect the shared-capital decision. Do not assume that using the italic style means every capital must acquire a new slanted construction. Keep a note of the actual style selected.
Treat display spacing as a deliberate final operation
The creator explicitly says that text kerning is present but display use requires subjective kerning and compensation. Set HUNTER at the intended title size, inspect each adjacent pair, and make small documented adjustments in a duplicate. Compare the whole word after each change. Bitter and Roboto Condensed are independent specimens here. The homepage’s portable Unicode treatments substitute characters; they cannot carry Hunter’s font metrics or your pair-specific spacing into another app.
Your questions, answered.
Why might the italic capitals remain roman?
The Aboutype account explicitly states that roman and italic share roman capitals. Inspect that intended construction before applying a synthetic slant.
Does supplied kerning remove the need for display review?
No. The creator specifically calls for subjective display kerning and compensation. Review the actual title at output size.
