HP Simplified has a documented printer application

HP’s May 2018 JetAdvantage Link SDK style guide names HP Simplified as the primary printer typeface. It shows Regular, Light and Bold with corresponding italics and describes consistency and legibility as reasons for the choice. This is a dated printer-interface specification, not evidence that every HP communication or later product uses the same typography.

02

A later creator account records a change in brand typography

Type Network’s February 2023 case study says HP switched its brand typeface from HP Simplified to Forma DJR. It describes Wieden+Kennedy’s request to expand Forma with Arabic, Devanagari, Greek, Hebrew and Thai, alongside the Latin styles. The two sources address different moments and contexts. Keep that distinction visible when discussing an older printer screen versus a later corporate campaign.

03

Prepare a useful independent device-interface sample

For an independent device interface, write a short status label, a complete instruction and an error-recovery step. Make the recovery action easy to find without using bold for every sentence. Test a long network name and a multi-digit job number. Keep line breaks away from the part of an instruction that tells the reader what to do next.

04

Compare families without redistributing branded files

Source Sans 3, Inter and Manrope are independent specimens, not HP Simplified or Forma DJR downloads. Compare the same instruction and compact label before deciding on a family for your own project. For multiple languages, prepare real translations with suitable script support rather than fitting every sentence into the space allocated to English. Refer to the source appropriate to the actual device and period for official production.
