01

Hatton: background and attribution

Hatton grew from Pangram Pangram’s collaboration with London design studio Two Times Elliott, drawing on signage around Hatton Garden and Clerkenwell. The publisher credits Mat Desjardins and identifies Morgane Vantorre’s involvement in a later update that added true italics.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The humanist serif treatment preserves an intentionally hand-rendered character. Inspect the publisher’s alternates and ligatures in actual words, and compare the lighter and darker styles before choosing a hierarchy. An ornamental feature should earn its place in the word rather than being enabled everywhere.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

For a jewellery label or editorial cover, compare a short name with an address and a date. Keep essential small information in a clear companion, and inspect thin strokes on the intended paper or screen. Our alternative study uses Cormorant and Calistoga as distinct expressive serif options.

For independent comparisons, try Cormorant and Calistoga. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
