Start with the university’s digital options
HarvardSites documents three heading-and-body pairings: Baskerville with Source Sans Pro, Merriweather with Roboto, and Inter with Inter. It describes these as choices within a shared site system, separate from layout and color configuration. This is specific evidence for that website platform. It does not mean every Harvard school, print publication or historical university signature uses any one of those pairs.
Harvard Business School has its own identity
The HBS guidance identifies customized HBS Graphik, including changes to the widths of H, B and S in selected weights. Its current resources distinguish Compact and X-Condensed roles and explain when ordinary Graphik may substitute. The school also documents its custom wordmark and shield arrangement. Treat that school-specific system as its own reference rather than labeling Graphik the universal Harvard font or reproducing a logo by typing the institution’s name.
Keep signature artwork and ordinary text distinct
HarvardSites’ brand guidance requires compliant university or school marks in specified page locations and separates them from ordinary content. A font pairing does not automatically produce those signature assets. Identify whether the reference is a site paragraph, school wordmark or shield before making a comparison. Use the website-font workflow for live text and image identification for an existing graphic.
Prepare a readable academic layout
For an original lecture page, establish a heading, short summary and practical details before adjusting the visual voice. Compare a serif-and-sans pairing with a restrained single-family approach using correctly licensed resources. Check long department names and small event information on a phone, keeping the text hierarchy clear without decorative outlines. Record the actual family choices and the particular institutional guide consulted rather than specifying only Harvard font.
