Harley Quinn Font: Birds of Prey’s Custom Alphabet

Pentagram’s original Birds of Prey case study documents customized letterforms based on Monotype’s Smart Sans. Weapons associated with Harley and the other characters appear within the wordmark, while the complete custom typeface includes graffiti-inspired weapons, hearts and harlequin-diamond dingbats. This is a specific film identity with character-related graphic details; a standard Smart Sans setting is not the complete customized result.

When analyzing a reference, label the underlying letters first. Mark a hidden object inside a letter separately from a freestanding symbol beside the title. That distinction prevents a decorative dingbat from being mistaken for an ordinary letter available in every font. For an original project, keep one readable wordmark proof without extra symbols and compare it with a decorated version. If the decoration turns a letter into a different character, simplify the detail rather than relying on the viewer to know the intended name.

In a mood board, attach the film title and year to the typography reference; do not use that reference to identify unrelated Harley Quinn tattoos or earlier comic lettering. Anton and Archivo Black here provide independent heavy sans-serif comparisons, not the film’s custom font. The homepage’s Unicode styles for a character-inspired nickname can supply copyable text variations, but cannot reproduce the movie alphabet, proprietary weapon details or dingbat glyphs.
