Compare the documented campaign and custom-font projects
Adam Ladd’s first-person case study identifies Cheddar Gothic Sans and Sans Italic for branded campaigns through Team Ignite. He describes expanded language coverage, brand-specific naming and formats for print, web and digital work. Separately, MADType’s original custom-font account describes the Freedom Machine family made with Tom Riddle, Wolfes and Harley-Davidson: earlier company lettering informed a contemporary design intended for screen, print and social use. These are distinct documented projects, not evidence that the historic shield logo is simply typed in either family.
Label the reference by application and period
For a research board, place campaign headlines, the shield logo, a tank badge and apparel lettering in separate labeled examples. Record the campaign or product when it is known. Compare the same application before identifying a font from one letter. If a commercial family was expanded and renamed for a client, distinguish that custom delivery from the ordinary retail package. A matching name in a font menu does not establish matching language coverage or exactly the same brand files.
Choose a practical display face for an independent design
Try your own heading with a date, location and short explanatory line beside it. Compare compact lettering with a broader heavy style, checking that the supporting information remains clear. Bebas Neue and Archivo Black here are independent display specimens, not Harley-Davidson’s campaign or custom files. The homepage’s font-generator styles for an original club name change Unicode characters; it cannot recreate these commissioned type systems, supply brand artwork or install the original fonts.
Your questions, answered.
Did Harley-Davidson use Cheddar Gothic?
Adam Ladd documents a campaign license for Cheddar Gothic Sans and Sans Italic, including custom expansion and naming. That is a scoped campaign account.
Does that identify the font in every Harley-Davidson logo?
No. The sources describe particular campaign and custom-type projects. Historic badges, the shield and other applications require their own identification.
