Separate the scalable family from the historical bitmap resource
Iconian’s own bitmap-font page includes Gunship among families supplied with a true .fon bitmap version, explicitly distinguishing these from TrueType fonts that merely look pixelated. Its application comments describe an older software environment and should be read as historical context, not present-day installation instructions. The Gunship author listing separately documents a version 5.1 TrueType package with condensed, expanded, italic and decorative resources. Do not assume a listing for an older bitmap edition describes the same files.
Choose the direction and proportions before decorative variants
Compose an original technical-event heading in the plain file, then compare its condensed and expanded counterparts in the same-width frame. Keep the point size and wording constant so the width decision is visible. Next compare an upright and a designated directional version, inspecting the space near any vertical border. Avoid selecting a decorative variant and then mechanically compressing or skewing it to repair a layout problem that a different supplied style would solve more cleanly.
Keep resource history separate from a film-font identification
A search result connecting Gunship with a film title does not by itself document that production’s original typography. This guide identifies Iconian’s actual named family and its resource distinctions. Orbitron and Electrolize offer independent technical-display comparisons, not additional Gunship styles. The homepage’s futuristic copy-and-paste text styles substitute Unicode characters; they do not deliver .fon or .ttf files or preserve a font-specific outline. Start with the author’s own resource and its applicable terms when the actual family is required.
Your questions, answered.
Is a TrueType font with square edges necessarily a bitmap font?
No. Iconian explicitly distinguishes actual .fon bitmap files from scalable TrueType designs that have a bitmap-like appearance.
Does the free personal-use listing cover every commercial use?
The author listing directs commercial-use questions to Iconian’s own resource. Follow the conditions accompanying the selected package.
