GT Super: background and attribution
Grilli Type released GT Super in 2018, designed by Noël Leu with help from Mirco Schiavone and Reto Moser. The foundry describes research into expressive display serifs of the 1970s and 1980s, translating calligraphic movement into repeatable typographic forms.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The foundry lists twenty styles and distinguishes Text and Display resources. Alternates for individual letters and the ampersand provide further choices. Compare the appropriate branch for the intended size instead of expecting a display setting to behave identically in paragraph text.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Set a lively editorial heading above a paragraph and compare the Text and Display branches at their intended sizes. Check the fine strokes against the chosen background, then adjust the line break before adding extra tracking.
For independent comparisons, try DM Serif Display and Lora. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
