Start with the actual Greek text
Greek is a writing system with its own characters, not one named font. Copy the intended Greek wording from a reliable text source before selecting a typeface. A Latin display alphabet that resembles a Greek inscription does not necessarily contain Greek characters. Keep that decorative task separate from typesetting the language.
Monotonic and polytonic text need different attention
The Unicode Standard distinguishes monotonic Greek, using tonos, from polytonic Greek with multiple marks. Its Greek FAQ explains that Greek letters and precomposed polytonic combinations occupy different Unicode blocks. A font’s support for a few uppercase Greek symbols does not establish complete support for the words, lowercase forms and accent combinations in a passage.
Inspect accents with the surrounding letters
Unicode’s FAQ recommends specially designed Greek fonts for the best handling of Greek accent combinations. Compare a complete passage with capitals, lowercase letters and the actual marks required. Check the text in its intended application because the font, shaping and fallback behavior work together. Preserve the original characters when changing visual style.
Choose language coverage before a decorative mood
For an ancient-text project, use an appropriately documented Greek family and a faithful source text. The institutional Greek Language resource offers context on polytonic resources. For a Latin title inspired by antiquity, the Cinzel profile is a separate visual comparison; it does not substitute for Greek character coverage. See Unicode text for the difference between characters and their appearance.
Your questions, answered.
Is there one font called the Greek alphabet?
No. Greek characters can be drawn by many typefaces. Choose a family that supports the actual text.
Are Greek-looking English letters valid Greek text?
No. A decorative Latin alphabet is not a replacement for correctly encoded Greek wording.
