Graphie: background and attribution
Graphie is Ryoichi Tsunekawa’s geometric sans serif family for Dharma Type. The publisher presents its geometry as a starting structure refined through optical corrections, combining a precise appearance with the practical demands of text and headings. Its documented catalog debut is June 2014. The family belongs to Dharma Type’s broad contemporary library, with a deliberately clear, restrained voice rather than the overtly nostalgic treatment found in some of the foundry’s display designs.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The current catalog lists sixteen styles: eight weights from Thin to Extra Bold, each with an italic. Sharp corners, straight lines and a substantial lowercase x-height define the publisher’s account of its appearance. Numeric features include superior and inferior figures, numerators, denominators and fractions. These are useful distinctions when comparing more than a title specimen: technical labels, measurements and short text blocks can reveal whether the selected weight and available figures suit a particular document.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Set a short product-information card with a heading, paragraph and two measurements. Compare a reading weight with a heavier heading, keeping the size difference modest at first. Use the appropriate fraction or numeric form where the document calls for it, then examine the relationship between numerals and lowercase text. Compare a lighter version only on the final background so the precise corners and small details remain clear at the intended size.
For independent comparisons, try Manrope and Montserrat. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
