Two original sources, two different designs
Wojciech Kalinowski’s own Font Library upload describes Gothica as a precursor to Nova Cut and the Nova family. He says this release uses glyphs from his stone-carving work, distinct from an earlier simplified publication. It lists Book, Bold and their Obliques under the SIL Open Font License. Separately, F37 × SPIN Gothica uses interacting serifed bars, no diagonals and a more strongly serifed stylistic set. F37 compares that construction to an ornate iron fence. These are separate creator identities, not interchangeable editions.
Keep an identity sheet with each proof
Before comparing designs, write the full publisher, family and selected style above each sample. For Kalinowski’s resource, compare Book and Bold on the same short phrase, then inspect the actual oblique entries instead of adding an artificial slant. Compare the result with the independently hosted Cinzel specimen, keeping the different family labels visible; this is an unrelated construction comparison, not the Nova project mentioned in the history. If a project file only says Gothica, inspect the resource identity before replacing a missing font.
Proof bar interaction and the alternate set separately
For the F37 resource, start with a word containing repeated vertical strokes and a t. Keep a reference copy in the default character set and a second with the supplied stylistic set enabled in a compatible application. Inspect where bars approach neighbouring letters, and compare the visible white spaces after reducing the headline. Avoid manually stretching letters to make a fixed frame fit; adjust the composition first. UnifrakturCook offers a separate blackletter comparison, not the mechanical F37 design. For copyable decorative characters, the homepage Unicode text-style generator is a different tool and does not load either Gothica resource into another app.
Your questions, answered.
Does every Gothica font come from the same designer?
No. The linked original sources document distinct Kalinowski and F37 × SPIN resources. Check the full maker and family identity before replacing or licensing a file.
Is Nova Cut identical to Kalinowski’s Gothica?
The creator documents a relationship between the projects. That is not a claim of identical letterforms; compare the separately labelled specimens and the exact styles used in the layout.
