01

Gordita: background and attribution

Gordita is Thomas Gillett’s geometric-based sans serif published by Type Atelier. The publisher explains that apparently simple shapes incorporate optical adjustments, including tapered joins. It is distinct from Gorditas, the separately credited open-license display family already covered on this site.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Compare the upright and italic styles using a paragraph as well as a heading. The publisher describes the italics as narrower and slightly lighter than the uprights. Test figures, punctuation and alternates in the actual edition instead of assuming that geometric outlines imply identical construction in every style.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Use a product name, a short description and a numeric price to evaluate the family as a small system. Compare light and heavy text at the same output size. If a crowded heading needs a narrower treatment, revise the layout before mechanically compressing the letters.

For independent comparisons, try Manrope and Montserrat. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
