Good Dog: background and attribution
Ethan Dunham’s Fonthead Design created Good Dog. The original directory release predates 2005, while the foundry’s Adobe profile separately identifies GoodDog New. The earlier freeware design and the newer commercial family should not be assumed to have identical files, coverage or terms.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The original release lists two font files and a character preview. Use that specific release to inspect the available treatment, punctuation and accents. The New family’s availability through a subscription does not replace the agreement accompanying the older files.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a playful announcement with a short caption. Inspect the actual words at reduced size and compare supporting details with a quieter face. Record whether the project uses the original Good Dog or GoodDog New so a collaborator can reproduce it.
For independent comparisons, try Chewy and Handlee. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
Official preview and font resources
Use Fonthead Design to try the original and investigate the files, styles and terms for your intended workflow. This site does not distribute or serve Good Dog font software.
The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
