Golf Fonts: Club Identity, Scorecards and Tournament Signs

Compare golf typography for club names, scorecards and event signs, with documented Goodwood and Topgolf examples and practical spacing advice.

Golf lettering has several jobs: a club name, a tee-time notice and a scorecard should not be forced into one decorative treatment. Choose by the information and viewing conditions before comparing a particular organisation’s identity.

01

Learn from contrasting documented golf identities

The Golf At Goodwood brand standard names Stempel Garamond for its communications. Public Type’s original Topgolf account instead describes Shield Sans beginning in 2017, followed in 2019 by Tee Line Serif and an expanded Topgolf family. Its completed system spans four families and 46 proprietary fonts. These are different identity briefs, not evidence that one retail family is the universal golf font.

02

Give the scorecard its own numerical proof

Build a sample card with the longest player name, hole labels, par values and several scores. Keep all number columns aligned, and compare the amount of handwriting space with the space consumed by printed labels. Proof a blank card and a filled example rather than choosing the face from the club heading alone. If numbers need fixed alignment, inspect the actual resource’s figure options instead of padding each score with manual spaces. Keep a tournament slogan outside the score grid.

03

Proof a directional sign separately from a club badge

For an original event, set FIRST TEE, REGISTRATION and CLUBHOUSE with a simple arrow and test the longest line within the planned sign dimensions. Compare the plain words before adding a crest, textured background or a script accent. Use Cormorant Garamond and Source Sans 3 as independent serif and sans comparisons, not the cited organisations’ fonts. The homepage customizable name and text styles creates copyable Unicode substitutions; it does not supply scorecard software, a licensed club identity or the proprietary Topgolf system.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Is there one official font for the sport of golf?

The cited organisations document different typography systems. Choose a face for your own club, card or sign rather than assuming a sport-wide standard.

Should the club title also be used for every score?

Compare those roles separately. A distinctive title does not establish that its numbers and spacing fit a compact score grid.
