Gibson: background and attribution

Canada Type presents Gibson as a contemporary humanist sans. Adobe’s current catalog credits Kevin King, Patrick Griffin, Rod McDonald and Jamie Chang and describes a coordinated set of weights with italic companions. The listing provides attribution without a verified origin date, so no release year is assigned here.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Compare upright and italic text with a set of numerals. A humanist category can suggest a broad design direction, but it does not establish matching line breaks or exact compatibility with another sans-serif family.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

For an identity system, compare a heading, a short button label and a longer description. Source Sans 3 and Open Sans supply independent humanist-oriented comparisons. Assess the complete hierarchy before adding more display styles.

For independent comparisons, try Source Sans 3 and Open Sans. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
