Frontage Pro: background and attribution
Juri Zaech’s Frontage Pro reworks the original Frontage layered typeface, whose reference is vintage storefront lettering. The creator describes Pro as a successor updated for contemporary font technology and broader language coverage. The design’s simple underlying letter shapes support the visual effects made by combining its components. Pro is a distinct revision: Zaech explicitly notes that its layers cannot be mixed with those of the original Frontage edition.

Forms, styles and what to inspect
Frontage Pro offers ten layers that can often stand alone or combine into dimensional lettering. Stylistic choices include a centered middle bar, vertical stems for M, a circular zero and a geometric ampersand. The family also supplies fifty-four catchwords through discretionary ligatures, plus automatic fractions. It is intended for short display wording rather than long paragraphs. The success of a composition depends on layer alignment as well as the chosen character alternatives.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a short shop name with two aligned layers in contrasting colors. Establish the size, position and line break before adding a third layer, keeping every copy on the same baseline. Leave room for the complete dimensional silhouette rather than measuring only the front face. Compare a single-layer version for small labels, and place the address or opening hours in a simpler supporting face outside the layered headline.
For independent comparisons, try Bungee Shade and Monoton. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
