Folio: background and attribution
Konrad Friedrich Bauer and Walter Baum designed Folio for the Bauer foundry, with its release dated to 1957 in the publisher’s account. This named sans-serif design is distinct from the general publishing term folio.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The linked listing separates ordinary-width weights from a condensed resource. Inspect those actual drawings instead of mechanically narrowing the default face. A broad comparison with another mid-century sans does not establish identical metrics or glyph shapes.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a neutral information heading and a paragraph. Libre Franklin and Inter offer independent sans-serif comparisons. Check the longest labels and emphasized words at the intended size.
For independent comparisons, try Libre Franklin and Inter. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
