The current university typography system
The University of Florida’s Brand Center identifies IBM Plex Sans as its main communications family, Source Serif for a more academic character and extended reading, and Anybody for display headlines, facts and numbers. These are complementary roles within the university identity. A Florida Gators jersey, historical athletics graphic or older university publication needs separate identification; this academic typography page does not establish its exact lettering.
Why older Florida font lists differ
UF explains that its move to open-source fonts preserves the existing brand direction while improving availability and implementation. The official transition required the previous licensed brand fonts to stop being used in new and electronic materials by June 27, 2025. Previously manufactured print pieces did not have to be discarded. Consequently, an older brochure can be authentic while showing a different type system from a current university website.
Language and accessible reading have separate needs
The Brand Center additionally lists Noto Sans for extended language coverage, Atkinson Hyperlegible Next for low-vision legibility and IBM Plex Mono for technical or monospaced applications. Choose these roles deliberately. For example, a technical explainer can separate a code example from its prose without turning every heading into a monospaced block. Check the actual language sample rather than assuming the display face contains every required character.
Build a university-style page with a clear hierarchy
For an original academic event layout, begin with a short display heading, place the date immediately below it, and give the explanation a quiet reading face. Reserve the most expressive style for one clear focal point. Test the heading at the narrowest mobile width and inspect the registration link separately. Using available open-source fonts does not by itself reproduce an approved UF logo or confer university affiliation.
Your questions, answered.
Is the current Florida university font free?
UF states that its core brand fonts are open source and links to their Google Fonts distributions. Follow the license accompanying the actual font files.
Is this the Florida Gators uniform font?
No uniform-font identification is established here. The documented source concerns university communications; athletics marks and uniforms require their own official evidence.
