Add and Use Fonts in Figma

Choose the right control, understand its scope and keep your text editable.

Figma distinguishes built-in families, locally installed fonts and uploaded account resources. Choose the workflow that matches where the font should be available.

01

Use locally installed fonts

Figma’s help documents TTF and OTF installation on supported Mac and Windows systems. Browser users need the Figma font installer for local access; the desktop app includes it.

After installation, reload an open browser file or restart the desktop app. Select a text layer and use the Font menu’s Installed by you filter.

02

Understand account uploads

Figma also documents uploading fonts through the account settings: open the account menu, choose Settings, then Account > Your uploaded fonts and use Upload fonts. Confirm the required rights for the resource.

Keep account availability separate from simply having a file installed on one computer.

03

Handle missing styles in a team file

Figma notes that collaborators need access to the relevant styles. Compare the actual family, weight and version before treating a missing-font message as a layout preference.

For browser local access, review Figma’s documented local-network or Apps on device permission when that is the missing connection.

04

Choose before substituting

Use the font pairing guide to establish roles before replacing several text styles. The font library links to family histories and official sources.

A similar visual mood does not promise identical metrics; review component labels and longer paragraphs after a change.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Does the desktop app need a separate font installer?

Figma documents that the desktop app includes it; browser local access uses the installer.

Is an account upload the same as local installation?

No. They make the resource available through different mechanisms.

Why can teammates see a missing-font warning?

They may lack access to the exact family or style used in the file.
