Fellix: background and attribution
Martin Vácha designed Fellix, with spacing and kerning by Igino Marini. Displaay dates the initial sketches to 2011 and the release to August 2015. Its creator describes an exploration of early Futura sketches, geometric construction and alternate forms, resulting in a family with its own choices.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Circular forms connect to vertical stems within a largely monoline structure. Alternate letters explore different balances between circular and square shapes. The current family lists eight weights with italics and variable weight and slant axes. Compare the exact edition, especially when an older document uses a related ellix-family name.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a short identity heading and a supporting paragraph. Compare ordinary a and g forms with selected alternates, then keep the chosen treatment consistent. Inspect circular-to-stem joins at large size while checking the overall word rhythm at the final output size.
For independent comparisons, try Montserrat and Josefin Sans. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
