Expressway: background and attribution
Ray Larabie’s Expressway develops the road-sign lettering reference of Highway Gothic into a broader contemporary family. The creator’s retrospective dates its launch to March 2005, following the earlier Blue Highway design. The current specimen describes resources for both large signage and smaller editorial or interface work.

Forms, styles and what to inspect
The family offers seven weights across two widths with italic companions. The described coverage includes Latin, Vietnamese, Greek and Cyrillic resources. The free Regular distribution has a desktop license; that does not automatically authorize embedding the font software in a website or application.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a directional label with a smaller interface heading and a numeric display. Inspect ambiguous letters and figures in the exact text. Choose the suitable width before changing spacing, and check the original files for the required script.
For independent comparisons, try Roboto Condensed and Inter. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
