Identify Haaparanta’s typographic experiment
The Suomi Explosion account credits Tomi Haaparanta and describes an experiment in building dynamics into a typeface. It specifies two variants intended to overlap for added dimension. The name does not mean the font animates, triggers a particle effect or applies a blast filter to arbitrary letters.
Inspect both variants before combining them
Set TYPE IN MOTION in each original variant in separate text objects. Keep a record of the wording and exact style names. Duplicate the title into a common position, using matching size and spacing, and hide each layer in turn to see what it contributes. Compare the registered combination with a single-variant control before introducing any offset.
Add color only after the construction is understood
Assign one color per layer and assess the actual title at its intended output size. Keep the subtitle and event details in a plain companion so the overlapping forms have a clear display role. Anton and Monoton here are independent comparisons. The homepage’s portable text treatments use Unicode substitutions; they cannot preserve Explosion’s registration, font variants or chosen layer colors in another app.
Your questions, answered.
Does Explosion animate the text automatically?
The publisher describes overlapping font variants, not an animation or particle engine.
Should the two variants be inspected separately?
Yes. Understanding each layer first makes it easier to align the title and assign colors intentionally.
