Record the complete family name and suffix
The publisher’s Europa Grotesk SH listing explains Scangraphic’s SH headline and SB body distinction. Its collection account describes separately adjusted spacing and kerning, with some designs also receiving optical changes. These are library principles, not evidence that every similarly named package contains both branches. Record the full family, suffix, width and style from the selected product. The existing Europa guide concerns the independent EuropaType design; Inter is a separately identified comparison here, not an original Europa Grotesk preview.
Build a headline proof before changing tracking
Set “Opening Night” at the intended headline size with the original selected SH resource. Keep its default spacing in the first proof. Make a duplicate with a modest tracking adjustment and compare the whole word shape, especially the gap between the two words. Evaluate it at the actual poster width rather than only in an enlarged working view. Do not assume that adding space to a headline font recreates a separately designed body resource; it changes only the setting you have in front of you.
Inspect accented capitals and line clearance
The Scangraphic account documents integrated accent alternatives in its headline complements for compact settings. Inspect the actual chosen font’s glyph repertoire before using such forms. Set “MÜNCHEN” above a second line, then compare available alternatives with the ordinary accented letters at identical size and position. Check the clearance above the umlaut and between lines. Preserve the correct underlying spelling and keep a note of any selected alternate. Never remove a necessary accent merely to make the lines fit more tightly.
Compare body copy only with the exact resource in hand
Add a short venue description beneath the headline. If you have licensed a corresponding SB resource, compare it with the SH setting at the same text size, then judge spacing and character shapes separately. If you have only SH, compare the paragraph with a separately named reading face instead and label that limitation. Print the headline, paragraph and accented location line together at final size. Save the selected suffixes and feature choices in the project record, and verify the actual publisher package before acquiring or sharing files.
Your questions, answered.
Is Europa Grotesk the same family as Europa by EuropaType?
No. This guide concerns Scangraphic’s named family. The EuropaType family has a different designer and publisher account.
Does increasing SH tracking make it an SB font?
No. Scangraphic describes separate spacing and kerning, and sometimes design changes, across its headline/body system. Tracking alone does not create another supplied resource.
