Ethnocentric: background and attribution

Ethnocentric is Typodermic’s angular display family, first released in 1999 according to the foundry. Its wide, segmented construction is associated with technical and performance-oriented graphics. That visual convention is a starting point for design, not evidence of a particular brand’s font choice.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The family is all caps, with separated strokes and angled terminals. Compare the lighter structure with the denser weights in a full name, including digits. Gaps that help establish the design can become difficult to distinguish when a word is reduced too far.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

For a fictional racing title, test one short name and a longer class label in the same heading area. Keep timing information in a simpler face with clearly distinguished digits. Audiowide and Russo One offer independent technical display comparisons with different silhouettes.

For independent comparisons, try Audiowide and Russo One. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
