01

Dharma Gothic: background and attribution

Ryoichi Tsunekawa’s Dharma Gothic draws from nineteenth-century wood-type traditions. The publisher describes the sans-serif family as an antiqued design and distinguishes it from the slab-serif companion and the separately named distressed Dharma Gothic P. MyFonts records its debut in June 2011.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The series spans multiple weights and widths, with italic resources. Alternate g, r and y forms are accessible through the salt feature, and tabular numbers through tnum. Check the selected package’s exact contents instead of assuming the family total means every style shares one width.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Set a narrow poster heading beside a short line of dates or prices. Compare widths before compressing the text artificially, and use tabular figures where numeric columns need alignment. Inspect any alternate letters in the actual headline.

For independent comparisons, try Bebas Neue and Antonio. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
