Desire: background and attribution
Desire is Charles Borges de Oliveira’s display family published by Borges Lettering. The publisher describes more than five years of development and an extensive collection of alternate letters, ligatures and flourishes. Those options are a central part of the family rather than a promise that every word will be decorated automatically.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The source distinguishes the Pro resource for glyph-aware software from a split arrangement intended to expose options through multiple files. Follow the included instructions for your application; the publisher warns that the split workflow loses kerning. A decorative alternate must still fit its neighbors.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Start with an uncomplicated book-cover title, then add one flourish at a time. Check the resulting word silhouette and the room left for the author name. Resist filling every available space with alternates: a quieter letter can make the chosen flourish more effective.
For independent comparisons, try Playfair Display and DM Serif Display. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
