Keep the answer attached to the 2017 identity project
In Design Week’s July 2017 interview report, DesignStudio explains choosing GT America for flexibility across communications and a bold character that would not become overly serious. Principal James Hurst describes an identity built to express the community’s point of view. This is an attributed account of that rebrand, not a claim that every later Depop screen, logo edition or campaign uses the same file.
Separate the original family resource from a frozen brand specification
Use Grilli Type’s current GT America resource to investigate the original family; its present specimen is labeled GT America Intl and provides width, weight, upright and italic controls. Do not read those current controls backward as a complete specification of the 2017 Depop implementation. When documenting an old campaign, retain the dated artifact, family name and particular setting together. When creating your own layout, choose an edition and style deliberately rather than treating a brand reference as an automatic font setting.
Let a bold statement and the selling details do different jobs
For an independent resale announcement, set SECOND LIFE as the short heading, then keep Vintage jacket, Size M and the condition note in a consistent detail block. Compare a wider and narrower heading within the same image crop before changing its weight. Preserve the product’s distinguishing details rather than letting the headline cover them. This turns the dated brief’s expressive flexibility into a concrete layout decision without copying Depop’s identity. The homepage text-style experiments replace Unicode characters; they do not install GT America, and a decorative copied heading should not replace essential item information.
Your questions, answered.
What font did DesignStudio discuss for the 2017 Depop rebrand?
Its attributed explanation in the July 2017 project report identifies GT America. This guide keeps that answer scoped to the documented rebrand.
Does that establish Depop’s current website font?
No. A dated identity account does not establish every later website or app implementation. Check the specific artifact and date rather than assuming one permanent setting.
