Denim: background and attribution
Martin Vácha and Daniel Quisek designed Denim for Displaay, with assistance from David Řeřicha and spacing and kerning by Igino Marini. The foundry dates its release to June 2021 and documents subsequent expansion. Its name connects with an influence on the later INK drawings, rather than meaning that the letters contain a fabric texture.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Flattened overshoots and a technical-yet-humanist approach distinguish the core sans-serif. The collection includes a wider WD branch and INK treatments with rounded inner corners inspired by silkscreen printing on denim. Current variable resources expose weight, width and slant axes; inspect the exact branch and edition required.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a short headline in the standard and wide branches, then inspect a paragraph and italic emphasis. Look closely at internal corners when comparing INK with the core drawing. Keep the selected family branch documented alongside its weight so another editor can reproduce the layout.
For independent comparisons, try Inter and DM Sans. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
