Crillee: background and attribution
Dick Jones designed Crillee Italic in 1980 and Extra Bold Italic in 1981. The Letraset project later gained Bold Italic by Peter O’Donnell and an Inline Shadow style by Vince Whitlock. The publisher’s account distinguishes those contributions rather than crediting every style to the first designer alone.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The current listing separates the italic weights from the inline-shadow treatment. The family’s geometric forms and forward lean create its distinctive display character. Inline Shadow is an internal graphic treatment, not an ordinary step along the weight scale.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a short sports-style title in solid and inline-shadow treatments. Inspect the shadow detail on the final background and allow room for the lean at the edges. Keep smaller practical information in a companion whose shapes remain clear at that size.
For independent comparisons, try Russo One and Michroma. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
Official preview and font resources
Use ITC / MyFonts to try the original and investigate the files, styles and terms for your intended workflow. This site does not distribute or serve Crillee font software.
The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
