Conthrax: background and attribution

Raymond Larabie released Conthrax in April 2016. His design history relates the project to an Oblique Strategies prompt that encouraged an intentionally restrained approach. Microgramma informed its proportions, while softened joins and rounded treatment gave it a different character.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The commercial family includes a range of weights with slanted companions. The creator separately describes a free commercial-use desktop release of Semi-Bold; that does not make all weights or all embedding uses free. Compare the exact resource and terms when moving from a static graphic to a website.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Prepare a short equipment name and model number, then a packaging heading. Compare the soft corners at the intended reproduction size. Use a quieter reading face for operating instructions rather than assuming a display family suits every technical text.

For independent comparisons, try Michroma and Orbitron. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
