Condor: background and attribution

David Jonathan Ross designed Condor, drawing on commercial lettering and architectural landmarks of the 1920s and 1930s. The result is a contemporary sans-serif interpretation with Art Deco associations. The inspiration period should not be confused with the release date of the digital family.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Its source description emphasizes strong stroke contrast, flattened curves and open apertures. Compare narrow and wide resources in the official specimen, including how fine strokes survive reduction. A broad geometric category does not describe these proportions and contrast choices completely.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Make a large magazine cover title and a smaller event subtitle. Check whether the fine strokes retain enough presence against the background at the final output size. Choose a suitable drawn width before adjusting tracking or line breaks.

For independent comparisons, try Poiret One and Josefin Sans. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
