Choc: background and attribution
Roger Excoffon designed Choc, which the publisher relates to brush-calligraphic influences. The ITC account separately credits Phil Grimshaw’s work on the light interpretation, distinguishing later expansion from the original design.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Compare the actual resource and its weight rather than assuming a light version is a mechanically thinned outline. Inspect the brush rhythm and how adjacent forms interact in the original specimen.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a short advertising headline and a supporting line in a calmer face. Knewave and Caveat Brush are independently drawn brush-style comparisons. Inspect joins and repeated marks using the exact wording.
For independent comparisons, try Knewave and Caveat Brush. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
Official preview and font resources
