Catull: background and attribution
Gustav Jaeger created Catull for Berthold in 1982. The publisher describes a calligraphic serif with contrasting stroke weights. Its own design history is the focus here; an old logo association should not be treated as a claim about a company’s present identity.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The listed Pro family has Regular, Medium and Bold with italic companions. Its distinctive serifs and contrast need inspection in both short headings and smaller text. Match the actual edition and script coverage before choosing it for a multilingual project.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a short title, an italic quotation and a paragraph. Inspect the finer strokes against the intended background and check punctuation in the actual copy. Keep the nominal size fixed when comparing how different families fill the same line.
For independent comparisons, try Cormorant Garamond and Lora. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
Official preview and font resources
Use Berthold / MyFonts to try the original and investigate the files, styles and terms for your intended workflow. This site does not distribute or serve Catull font software.
The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
