Burgues Script: background and attribution

Burgues Script is Alejandro Paul’s Sudtipos interpretation of the penmanship of Louis Madarasz. In the creator account, published teaching examples supplied the principal references, while letters were adapted to make flexible digital combinations. The family is a modern homage rather than a literal font file made by Madarasz.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Inspect the beginning and ending forms, ligatures and swashes in an OpenType-capable application. These contextual options help letters fit together; they do not mean every flourish should be applied to every position. Compare the default word before selecting a more ornate form.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a formal invitation name and one short ceremonial heading. Leave enough vertical and horizontal space for the chosen swashes. Keep dates and addresses in a restrained companion, and assess the longest name before finalizing a centered layout.

For independent comparisons, try Pinyon Script and Great Vibes. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
