Brandon Grotesque: background and attribution
Hannes von Döhren released Brandon Grotesque in 2010, informed by hand-lettered advertisements from 1920s and 1930s magazines. Slightly softened corners temper its geometric construction.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The relatively small lowercase height is part of its display character. The separate Brandon Text companion was designed for longer text and smaller sizes, so it should not be treated as the same family with a different filename.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a short identity heading and compare it with the text companion at the publisher. Inspect actual italic forms and small-size details instead of assuming one geometric sans can fill every role.
For independent comparisons, try Josefin Sans and Jost. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
